ARCHITECTURE MODEL MAKING TIPS FOR STUDENTS


Let me explain first what I write from the perspective of someone who has had personal experience of having to make architectural models with limited resources.The most common mistakes people make when they start to produce an architectural model I hope I can help you avoid these mistakes and save you a lot of wasted time and effort.

Planning your architecture model

The first and most important step for any project to build the architectural model is to establish a clear objective for the model. In other ways, what is the model for, or what is its purpose, what does it need to communicate? Very few people has the budget and resources to create or innovate a model that shows everything in their project. It is more realistic to choose an aspect of your design may show the model well.

For example, if you design a building in a sensitive area, massaging a monochrome model showing the general shape and layout of your design and how it fits in context. This will give viewers an immediate understanding of your project. The colors, materials and other detailed features can be explained by additional drawings, photographs, color samples, etc.

At what level should be the model of architecture?

Once you have decided what your model to illustrate the next step is to choose the most appropriate. This decision is influenced by 2 main things: how big an area you need to model and how much detail you want to view. If you want to show a large area, perhaps for a context model of the site, you must choose a smaller scale, say 1:500 or 1:1000. This to avoid that the model becomes too large to be practical. But these small scales, you must be aware that this is not really possible to show much, in the way of details.

If the purpose of the model is to show the building itself, you might consider 1:200 or 1:100 scale. At these scales, you can display windows, doors, balconies, etc. But if your goal is to illustrate a particular area or a detailed portion of the building, you probably need to go higher still, says the scale of 1:50 or even 1:20 scale.

Whatever the purpose of your model that is able to understand scales allow you to work on the practice, realistic options for your project. Many students have a clear understanding of scales and those who can not ignore this next bit, but if you're a little confused on the subject, it is probably worth reading.

The stairs are the simplest part. Architectural scale models is the relationship - that is, the relative size of the model of the real thing. So if the area you need to model is 100 meters x 100 meters square, your 1:200 scale model is 500mm x 500mm (100 x 5 mm).

In particular, the large sites it is recommended to use a much smaller scale, for example, 1:1000. This architectural scale model of one-thousandth of the actual size. To determine how many mm is the sum of m, we repeat we have done previously, 1000 divided by the number of scale (in this case 1000). The answer is of course 1, or m represents 1 mm on the model. Architectural model making methods and materials

Be realistic about what you can achieve with time, materials and equipment available to you. You can not try to make the model shows the details of your design, or you can not finish it. Very often it is the students with good modeling skills, who do not complete their architectural style, simply because their enthusiasm got the better of them and they tried to show too much. Or is it the model is finished, but it took so much of their time and energies to other important parts of their presentation must be in a hurry or are not done at all.

The use of color is another area where models can go wrong. Sometimes it is safer to keep things in monochrome (white, for example, may seem very "architecture" and elegant), unless you are very familiar with the color or it is an essential part of this model in your attempts to show .

Materials sourcing can be difficult, but it is best to investigate the art and craft shop facilities and also to check if a model hobby shop in the region. These stores usually have a wide range of materials, but can not find what you need at first. It's amazing how quickly a group of students all working on similar specifications can empty the shelves of the finest materials.
